Hefezopf (literally "yeast braid") are sweet breads originally from Switzerland, Germany and Austria. The dough is made from sugar, flour, butter, milk, eggs, yeast and bit of sourdough starter.
Typically, Hefezopf consists of three or four braided dough-pieces. The Hefezopf ("Zopf" meaning braid) is a loaf consisting only of a braid.
Here at the German Baking Queen kitchen, they are made in two versions: plain or filled with nuts. The filled version is also coated with a tasty lemon-sugar glazing or on request only we also able to have them with chocolate glazing, too.
